Art for Africa 2.5 weeks away www.artforafrica.info

It's been some time since my last post - I've been keeping updates on facebook so please become a fan to stay up-to-date.

Art for Africa Update:
We've got over 50 pieces of art that has been donated to the event - jewelry, photography, and paintings, and all range in value from $50-7000. There will be African dancers and drummers entertaining the guests and drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served. The event takes place on April 8th from 6-9:00pm and you can buy your tickets, in advance, at www.artforafrica.info

I've recently had an update from Gisimba Orphanage and unfortunately it's not a good one.Gisimba, the man who runs the orphanage has been sick and in the hospital and so has his operations manager. They have also run out of money and aren't able to pay their staff. Most of the people working at Gisimba are volunteers - many were saved by Gisimba during the genocide in 1994 and work there to repay him for saving their lives. However, there are a few staff members that receive a small salary for running the orphanage. They aren't sure what they are going to do to keep it going so it seems that Art for Africa comes at a good time to help support them.

Creating Sustainable Business in Rwanda

While in Rwanda, I had the pleasure of visiting the women who make KEZA jewelry - who have been featured in O Magazine and by Prada. Here's more on their story and success.
